JANUARY 4, 2024:
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announces that a Spearfish man has been sentenced to life in prison after earlier being convicted of Murder in the Second Degree in the 2022 shooting death of his wife.
Dreau L. Rogers was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He had earlier been found guilty by a Lawrence County jury in the shooting death of Destiny Rogers of Spearfish.
“This sentencing is an appropriate ending to a tragic case, and we extend our sympathies to Destiny’s family,” said Attorney General Marty Jackley.
The Spearfish Police Department and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation. The case was prosecuted by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and the Lawrence County State’s Attorney’s Office.
DECEMBER 12, 2023:
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announces that a Spearfish man has been convicted by a Lawrence County jury in the 2022 shooting death of his wife.
Dreau L. Rogers, was convicted Thursday (Dec. 7, 2023) of Murder in the Second Degree. He also was found guilty of six drug-related charges and five charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon. The trial was held in Deadwood.
Destiny Rogers of Spearfish died Jan. 22, 2022 after a shooting that took place in a Spearfish residence. Dreau Rogers was later arrested and charged in the shooting.
Dreau Rogers will be sentenced Jan. 2, 2024 in Deadwood. He faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
The Spearfish Police Department and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation. The case was prosecuted by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and the Lawrence County State’s Attorney’s Office.
FEBRUARY 11, 2022:
A Spearfish man charged with murder for the killing of his wife at their home last month has pleaded not guilty.
Dreau Lester Rogers, 33, was arrested Jan. 22, 2022. Early that morning, police were called to the home on St. Joe Street and found a woman who had been shot. That woman was later identified as 43-year-old Destiny Dawn Rogers. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a Spearfish hospital.
Rogers remains in Lawrence County Jail without bond. A motions hearing is set for Friday, February 18, 2022.

JANUARY 25, 2022:
The man who was arrested over the weekend in connection with his wife’s murder made his initial court appearance yesterday (Jan. 24, 2022) in Lawrence County.
Dreau Lester Rogers, 33, appeared via video before Fourth Circuit Magistrate Judge Chad Callaham.
Rogers is facing charges of First Degree Murder, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Ingestion of a Controlled Substance. He is charged in the shooting death of 43-year Destiny Dawn Rogers. Police found Destiny suffering from a gunshot wound early Saturday morning (Jan. 22, 2022). She was taken by ambulance to the Spearfish hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Dreau Rogers could face the death penalty if convicted of first degree murder. He is being represented by a court appointed attorney. His next court appearance is before Fourth Circuit Court Judge Michelle Comer.

SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — A Spearfish man is accused in the shooting death of his wife early Saturday (Jan. 22, 2022) morning, authorities said. Police say 33-year-old Dreau Rogers has been arrested and charged with first degree murder in the killing of 43-year-old Destiny Rogers. Spearfish police say Dreau Rogers is also charged with possession and ingestion of a controlled substance. The Black Hills Pioneer reports that police responded to a 911 call seeking medical assistance at 12:48 a.m. Saturday, when police discovered that Destiny Rogers had suffered a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
