BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State trailed at one point in the second half after leading by as many as 15, but the Jackrabbits were tough down the stretch to close out a 75-66 victory over Kansas City in Summit League men’s basketball before a nationally televised contest on CBS Sports Network at Frost Arena on Thursday (Jan. 25, 2024). The Jackrabbits outscored the Roos 48-14 in the paint. But SDSU was held to 2-for-11 from 3-point range while Kansas City went 15 of 38 from deep in the contest. Luke Appel matched his season high of 19 points for a game high. He was joined in double digits by Matt Mims who registered a season-high 15 points and William Kyle III with 13. Jamar Brown scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to lead Kanas City. With the win, the Jacks improved to 5-1 in Summit League play and 12-9 overall while Kansas City fell to 9 and 13 overall and 2-4 in Summit League play.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Powered by four players in double figures, the South Dakota State women’s basketball team cruised to a 72-49 win over Kansas City Thursday night (Jan. 25, 2024) in Kansas City. Tori Nelson had an all-around night for the Jacks, tallying 14 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block in 26 minutes. Paige Meyer matched Nelson’s 14 points and dished a game-high five assists. Madison Mathiowetz scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, followed by 11 points, seven boards and seven steals by Brooklyn Meyer. Kansas City’s Nariyah Simmons scored nine points to lead the Roos who fell to 10-11 on the season and 1 and 5 in Summit League play. The Jackrabbits improve to 14-5 on the season and 6-0 in Summit League action.
