Pierre firefighters extinguish garage fire early Saturday morning; Pierre Rural firefighters called to grass fire Monday afternoon east of town

No one was injured but two stalls of a garage were damaged in a fire shortly after midnight Saturday morning (June 22, 2024) in Pierre.

Fire Department Chief Ian Paul said the call was in the 400 block of South Chapelle Street in Pierre.

Paul says the cause of the fire was accidental.

Then…..

Shortly after noon on Monday (June 24, 2024), Doug Hinkle with the Pierre Rural Volunteer Fire Department says they were called to a grass fire in the south ditch of Highway 14 about five miles east of Pierre.

Hinkle says the cause of the ditch fire is undetermined.

Hinkle says volunteer firefighters were at the grass fire for nearly an hour.
