JUNE 27, 2024:
The Pierre City Commission has approved (June 25, 2024) a motion to align the town’s 911 surcharge ordinance with state law.
Lacey Walz, City Finance Director, says Pierre’s current ordinance included a fixed rate, so a change was needed to bring it into compliance.
The 911 surcharge is applied to monthly phone bills statewide and is used to support public safety communication and 911 dispatch centers throughout South Dakota. The state Department of Public Safety distributes the funding.
