John McHale is training hard with Sanford senior exercise specialist Steve Bliss for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. His goal is to get a gold medal this time around. You can read and watch his story from both Sioux Falls Live and KELO.

Every ticket purchased helps support Team South Dakota! There are 65 Special Olympics athletes, Unified partners, and coaches representing our state at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota on June 20-26.
One lucky winner will take home this one-of-a-kind pair of custom shoes. This is perfect for displaying or wearing around to celebrate Team South Dakota.
With support from U.S. Olympic gold medalist gymnast Shawn Johnson East, SOARING follows three 2026 Special Olympics USA Games athletes on their journey to nationals in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Athletes are from Minnesota, Michigan, and Montana.
The results for Week 5 of the Step Challenge are in, but you will have to wait until next week to see them.
In the meantime, the weather is nice, so there are no excuses. Let’s get outside and move, move, move!

Sioux Falls Heroes Pull

The heroes have returned! We are excited to bring back the Sioux Falls Heroes Pull. Teams of up to 10 people will compete to see who can pull a Minnehaha County SWAT Bearcat and a Sioux Falls Fire Truck the fastest.
Last week, several of our Special Olympics South Dakota athletes traded in their sports gear for a different type of competition!
The Battle Branch Boys held their first Adaptive Walleye Tournament in Pierre, South Dakota. Two staff members, Todd Bradwish and Haley Zerr, helped with the event and made it an amazing experience for the more than 20 participants.
