The Zap began a long stretch of baseball at Hyde Stadium with their schedule packed with games until the next day off on July 7th. It has been an interesting month of June for the Zap, they would get into a stretch of games then see a few days off. That all changed last night with their only days off coming July 7-9 and every other day having action throughout the next month.
The Zap jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to aggressive baserunning from Gavin Fraser who was hit by a pitch, stole second, stole third and was driven home by Mason Melton.
In the third, the Zap would again use an aggressive approach on the basepaths to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Cy Taylor was dicing the Aviators up on the mound in arguably his best start of his career, putting his offense at ease to have a big inning. That inning came in the fifth when the Zap brought 9 runs across to score.
The big fifth began with Landon Meyer splitting the gap and bringing in two on an RBI double. Connor Goldberg would single with runners on to add two more, then Quinn Ludvigsen would bring one in on a fielder’s choice. Fraser got hit by yet another pitch in the fifth with bases loaded, so the bruise earned a run and the Zap continued to small-ball the Aviators in the fifth to blow the game open.
The Zap would go onto win 14-0, and while the offense was impressive, Cy Taylor was the highlight of the home team’s performance going 7 innings of shutout ball, surrendering just one walk and one hit in the outing.
The Zap will continue their four-game series with the Aviators tonight at Hyde Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM CT.
