Tucked in on a Tuesday night, the Lyman Raiders got their volleyball season underway at home against White River. With the Raiders football team cruising at 2-0, it seems a lot of the focus has been on the gridiron. Not to mention the game of the week coming up Friday between the Raiders and the unbeaten Sully Buttes Chargers. However, the volleyball team wanted to change that narrative, and did so in a big way.
The White River Tigers came out thrashing, jumping to an early 1-0 lead in the match after a comfortable 25-18, set 1 win. Things really got steep for Lyman when the Tigers went up 2-0 after taking set 2 by a score of 25-22. It felt like Lyman might be done for the night, but then Jordyn Scott and company took over.
Lyman, led by Scott with 21 kills, would come all the way back and win sets 3-5 in dramatic fashion to start their season off with a bang. Set 3 went Lyman’s way by a score of 25-21, and the same for set 4 with a score of 25-17. Set 5 finished close, but in Lyman’s favor, 15-11.
Scott was the leader in kills and blocks (4) for the Raiders, while Kenzie Wagner tallied five aces. White River’s Page White had an outstanding night for the Tigers, tallying five aces, double-digit kills and a block. However, it would not be enough as the Raiders were able to start the season 1-0 with this comeback.
