VERMILLION – South Dakota State defeated Omaha 5-0 Sunday to win the weather-delayed Summit League softball tournament at Nygaard Field and earn a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Tori Kniesche pitched a one-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts for her 16th complete game of the season. Cylie Halvorson hit a two-run home run.
The tournament originally had been scheduled for Brookings and was to have begun Wednesday, but weather forced a move to Vermillion and the tournament began on Friday.
SDSU (41-11) will play Michigan Friday in Norman, Oklahoma, in the regional hosted by number-one national seed and defending champion Oklahoma.
