Louisa Martin, age 74, of Black Hawk, SD (and formerly of Ft. Yates, ND), entered the Spirit World on Saturday, October 16, 2022, at Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Louisa Mae Martin was born on October 3, 1948 at Ft. Yates, ND to Garfield & Magdalene (Shiaka) Antelope. Louisa went to school in Fort Yates until 6th grade, and then moved to Mandan with her aunt, Virginia White Shield Callous Leg. She went to Christ the King Catholic School for grades 7th and 8th grade. She then moved to Harrick, South Dakota, moved back to Fort Yates and then married Emory Keoke in 1972. Through their union Elizabeth Mary Keoke-Geboe, was born. Louisa then moved to Jamestown and back to Fort Yates until 1975, at which time she then moved to Rapid City, SD., where she resided for many years. At this time she met her third husband, Theodore F. Martin, Jr. To this union were born three children: Marybeth Martin, Theodore Franklin Martin III, and Charlene Davina Martin. Louisa worked at times, but her greatest work was being but was a homemaker to her family. She was living in Black Hawk, SD at the time of her passing.
Louisa is survived by one son, Theodore Martin, III of Black Hawk; three daughters, Elizabeth Geboe and Charlene Martin of Black Hawk, and Marybeth Martin of Sturgis, SD. One sister, Geraldine Pepin, Valpraiso, IN
She is preceded in death by her mother, Magdalyn Shiaka, and father, Garfield Antelope, & brothers, Jason Black Tomahawk and Owen Wise Spirit. She has numerous relatives and friends, none of which are intentionally left out and a special thanks going out to Bennidica and David Ewaliko and their children along with the entire White Shield
A time of prayerful gathering of family and friends to honor Louisa’s life will begin at 10:00 AM (cst) Monday, October 24, 2022 at the the AJ Agard Community Building at Ft. Yates, ND. A burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Reed Cemetery.
