Capital City Campus in Pierre has added a new student ambassador to its Board of Directors.
Brenda Velazquez will graduate from the Dakota Wesleyan University Learn & Earn program at CCC in December 2022.
CCC Executive Director Lindy Geraets says they decided to create the Student Ambassador board position to ensure they’re not only including students, but also listening to them. She says as CCC’s first ever student ambassador, Velazquez’s insight will provide other board members with perspectives from a current student and young community member.
Velazquez says DWU’s Learn & Earn program “leads you to great opportunities after graduation, because it provides students with real life experience.” She starts full-time as a Business Analyst at the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications in December.
Velazquez also credits the hands-on experience at her internship location and strong support from professor, Jessica Carr, fellow students and her workplace for making the program so successful. She says Carr “is an amazing instructor, always trying to find ways to support students.”
Capital City Campus also offers a Licensed Practical Nursing degree through Lake Area Technical College out of Watertown, Driver Education classes and test proctoring.
