DECEMBER 20, 2023:
South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks staff have been working this fall to improve the shorefishing opportunities along a popular stretch of Lake Sharpe at Pierre.
GFP Aquatic Habitat and Access Coordinator Jason Jungwirth says the work was done along Highway 34 from Twin Bridges to Fort George.
Jungwirth says the majority of the project was complete by Dec. 1, 2023.
He says the staircases should be fairly easy for most people to get up and down.
Additionally, Jungwirth says they’ve added more parking space for boats.
GFP anticipates this project will be completed in mid-2024.
OCTOBER 3, 2023:
A popular shorefishing location east of Pierre is going to be seeing some major renovations.
South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks says shorefishing along Highway 34 from Twin Bridges to Fort George closed yesterday (Oct. 2, 2023) and will remain closed until the beginning of December. The project will improve the allowed approaches, making a new approach and adding a gravel face lift to all of the roads in the area. Additionally, there will be stairs to 11 shorefishing locations that are currently being used in this area to allow for easier access to the shoreline.
GFP appreciates the public’s patience and looks forward to having a greatly improved access area for everyone to enjoy.
