Mike Ahlemeier, 73, of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2023, at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery. A prayer service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the church with visitation one-hour prior.
Michael Harold Ahlemeier was born August 5, 1950, in Hoven, South Dakota to Harold John and Elaine (Hansen) Ahlemeier. Mike graduated from Gettysburg High School and went on to receive his Bachelor of Business from South Dakota State University in Brookings. After completing his education, Mike made the decision to return to Gettysburg to run the family farm. His tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to agriculture were not only a testament to his work ethic but also a testament to his love for the land and his family.
In 1970, Mike married Marilyn Hanneman, and they had three sons: Scott, Kevin, and Curits.
Mike was a loving father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community. He found great joy in watching his grandkids play sports, capturing precious moments through his photography, fishing and camping with family, and tending to his farm, nurturing his crops with care. In his later years, he shared a beautiful life with the love of his life, Kathy.
Mike’s life will be forever cherished by his significant other, Kathy Schweitzer, Sioux Falls; sons: Scott (Trish) and Kevin, all of Gettysburg, and Curtis of New Orleans, Louisiana; his grandchildren: Shelby, Jadyn, Paige, Peyton, Kayden, Haylie, Brynlie, and Dylan; great-grandchildren: Sutton, Rhett, and Banks; sisters: Cindy Futch, Linda Helgeson, and Brenda Snipes and brother, John (Tina) Ahlemeier.
He was preceded in death by his parents: H.J. and Elaine Ahlemeier; maternal and paternal grandparents; sister, Kay Ahlemeier and brother-in-law, Rick Snipes.
Memorials in Mike’s honor may be directed to “Keep Hope Local” at 127 Hilltop Dr, Gettysburg, SD 57442, or to the “Oahe Area Youth Center” at PO Box 65, Gettysburg, SD 57442, which will carry forward Mike’s legacy of supporting the youth and enriching our community through local activities.
