Lucille Scott was born July 20th, 1929, to Harry & Pearl (Glerup) Scott in Corson County, SD. Lucille has no middle name since instead of one baby there were twins. The family had chosen Lucille Lorainne for a girl’s name so instead of finding another name, her and her sister shared the one name.
She grew up on the family cattle ranch along Rock Creek near Bullhead, SD.
She attended country schools and graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1947. She attended Aberdeen Normal and obtained a teaching certificate in 1948 and taught at three country schools around the Timber Lake Area – Chapel School, Meyers School, and Long Butte School.
On May 19th, 1948, Bruce Enright of Timber Lake and Lucille Scott of Bullhead traveled to Selby, SD and were married. In later years, the couple made their home in the same area as Bruce’s parents Bryan and Pearl Enright & twin brother Bryce and Levera Enright 10 miles northeast of Timber Lake.
Lucille and Bruce had three sons-Dillard, Justin & Scott.
Lucille enjoyed the great visits in the close-knit neighborhood & coffee visits were a daily affair. Lucille was a cheerful person, willing to help with anything. She loved sewing, was an avid quilter and won local awards for her hand quilting and hand appliqued quilts, gardening, kids, and all sorts of pets. She even trained her milk cow to allow bum lambs to nurse.
In later years her husband Burce, a WWII veteran, had health issues and they moved to Sturgis so Bruce could receive medical care at Ft. Mead Hospital. By the time Bruce passed away on June 4th, 2003, Lucille decided to keep her apartment in Sturgis and would spend summers in her rural Timber Lake home.
Lucille had her health issues. She was a breast cancer survivor. One of her tougher issues was the loss of sight due to Macular degeneration. She used her green thumb skills to fill her apartment with plants, especially beautiful orchids. She then moved to Spearfish Canyon Healthcare facility and was later joined by her sister Lorraine.
Lucille is survived by her sons Dillard of Sturgis SD, Justin (Kendra) and Scott of Timber Lake, SD. She is also survived by grandson Justis (Sandy) Enright of Sauk Center, Mn. and their children Natalie, Kai, Freja & Ares and granddaughter Jo Lynn (Jeremy) Higgins of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Xavier & Arianna.
