The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office is joining area sheriff’s offices, police departments and the South Dakota Highway Patrol in the annual holiday highway safety campaign aimed at reducing crashes, deaths and injuries associated with impaired driving.
Sheriff Patrick Callahan says driving drunk or high is a completely preventable crime.
Callahan says don’t expect law enforcement to give you a break because it’s the holidays. He says if you want someone to come get you make that call before you get behind the wheel, not after you get stopped.

-
Let friends know they can contact you for a sober ride when needed.
-
Those hosting a party where alcohol is served should make sure guests leave with a sober driver.
-
Always wear your seat belt because it is the best defense against impaired drivers.

The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office is joining area sheriff’s offices, police departments and the South Dakota Highway Patrol in the annual holiday highway safety campaign aimed at reducing crashes, deaths, and injuries associated with impaired driving.
“Driving drunk or high is a completely preventable crime,” said Sheriff Patrick Callahan. “Plan ahead to have a sober ride before you head out on the road, or plan to spend the night in jail. It’s just that simple.”
Deputies will be out in force countywide throughout the holidays working to keep the roads and highways safe for everyone.
“Don’t expect a break, if you want someone to come get you make that call before you get behind the wheel, not after we stop you,” said Callahan.
