She gained her wings and began her journey on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, at 1:20 PM. She passed away peacefully at Mobridge Regional Hospital surrounded by her devoted family. Ramona, better known as Pauly, Auntie Prunes, and Gma Ramone was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, great grandmother and friend to everyone.
Ramona Paulette Traversie, was born on September 11, 1952, in Promise, South Dakota to Elmer & Ellen (Thompson) Traversie. She was one of three children. Paulette grew up around Mobridge and Promise but attended Old Cheyenne River Agency Boarding School in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
In 1970, she met Vincent Floyd Thompson and to this union they had 6 children, one of which they lost in childbirth (Andrea Hope). They moved around for the next 13 years until finally making their home in Timber Lake, South Dakota in 1983. While there, she enjoyed working as the Cook for Timber Lake Head Start. In 1992, she decided to make the move back to Mobridge where she began working as a Cook at the Promise Day School and as a Pit Boss/Blackjack Dealer at Grand River Casino. A couple years later a better job opportunity came along in which she went to work at the Aberdeen Area Youth Regional Treatment Center as a Social Service Aide until she retired in 2017.
Ramona lived a life rooted in love, family, and tradition. She was an attentive and affectionate mother to her five children who will carry on her legacy of strength, warm-heartedness, and resilience. In her free time, she enjoyed throwing darts, bowling, sewing, puzzles, reading, spending time with family and attending every sporting event near and far that her children, grandchildren and other family members participated in.
Ramona was a woman of deep spirit and grace, known for her smile, warmth, laughter, and unwavering commitment to those she loved. She was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. She found joy in the simple things in life and always put family first. Her compassion for others and ability to uplift those around her will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
Ramona was the heart of her family, offering wisdom and love to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who came into her life. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her unconditional love will continue to remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
She is survived by her children Effie, Troy, Stacie, Deirdre, and Vanette Thompson and extended family, including her 9 grandchildren (Adrienne & Trent; Torrie & TJ; Vance & Kasidi; TyRel & Blake; and Kale), 7 great-grandchildren (Landen, Adysen, Westen, Benten; Ryker & Sawyer; and Paeyton) who were her pride and joy; and also Jeremy Gosch who was always there to lend a helping hand no matter what the task was with no questions asked. Ramona’s memory will live on through the many lives she touched.
