Lois Wolf, 92, Java, SD, died Monday, February 10, 2025 at Angelhaus, Aberdeen, SD.
Lois Ann Stangl, daughter of Ella (Tronson) and A. Donal Stangl, was born March 5, 1932 near Java. She was brought up at the family farm two miles east and three miles south of Java. She attended Spring Lake Rural School and Java High School (Class of 1949). She furthered her education at the University of South Dakota where she studied music and English. Lois was a country schoolteacher near Selby, SD and continued as a substitute teacher at several local school districts. On June 14, 1953, Lois married Marvin Wolf at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. They settled on the Wolf farm four miles SW of Java. In the fall of 1970, they relocated to Java. Lois kept busy. In addition to raising her daughters, she taught piano lessons for many years and accompanied countless vocalists and student musicians over the years. She also was organist/pianist for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Church near Selby, and Java Presbyterian. She was the Postmaster in Java from 1970-1974, was a census taker five times, was Walworth County Bailiff, proofreader at the Selby Record, and the activities director at the Mobridge Care Center, Mobridge, SD. Lois was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, accompanist for the church choir and men’s quartet, Order of Eastern Star, and the Java American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and playing piano at nursing homes.Lois is survived by two daughters—Laurel (Conald) Kaiser of Tolstoy, SD and Eleanor Mundorf of Saginaw, MI (George of Brea, CA); six grandchildren— Sonja (Craig) Kollasch of Mitchell, SD, Erik (Maquenzie) Kaiser of Volga, SD, Alex Mundorf of Tustin, CA, Christian (Abigail) Mundorf of Saginaw, Carrie Kaiser of Sioux Falls, SD, Jason Kaiser attending Dakota State University in Madison, SD; and four great grandchildren with a fifth due this month.She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, on February 22, 2007; her father, A. Donal, on July 2, 1974; her mother, Ella, on December 31, 1996; her sister, Elaine Osterday, on May 22, 2009; and one great grandchild, Bridger Conald Kaiser, on December 20, 2023.Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Friday, February 14, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, led by Pastor Brian Nies. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery.
