A 46 year old man wanted on sexual assault charges in Brown County was captured Monday (May 5, 2025) in rural Hughes County.
Sheriff Patrick Callahan says Hughes County Deputy Sheriffs captured 46-year-old Daniel Robert Napton of Frederick, South Dakota, after his vehicle was spotted by an alert citizen while it was parked in Blunt.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office had earlier issued an arrest warrant for Napton on charges of Second-Degree Rape.
Hughes County Sheriff’s Deputies, South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and state Division of Criminal Investigation agents took Napton into custody, without incident, just after 12pm CT. He was transported to the Hughes County Jail in Pierre where he remains in custody on a $25,000 cash bond.
Callahan says the incident serves as a reminder to people that if you see something, say something. He says the entire community is safer because one person saw something and called it in.
The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office was aided by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
