Pierre students learn about importance of Veterans Day as they prepare for programs being held today

Rather than having the day off for Veterans Day (Nov. 11, 2025), the Pierre School District is in session and hosts patriotic programs throughout the different school buildings.

Pierre Supt. Dr. Kelly Glodt says making the change to holding classes on Veterans Day helps the students learn about the significance of the day and of honoring those who have served our country.

Glodt says the students often see local veterans and members of the public attending the various programs.

School Board member Randy Hartmann says he’s been asked many times why Pierre made the change to having classes on Veterans Day, and he often replies with a question.
