The water use restriction in Fort Pierre has been lifted.
Dec. 18, 2025:
Because of complications with the installation of a new water line, Fort Pierre remains under the water use restriction that went into effect Monday night (Dec. 15, 2025).
Mayor Gloria Hanson says Fort Pierre has switched to its small water storage tank today (Dec. 18, 2025) while the Bureau of Reclamation and Mni Wiconi continue trying to connect the new water line.
Hanson says operating off the small water storage tank means Fort Pierre residents might notice a difference in water pressure.
The Fort Pierre City Office will issue a notification when the restriction is lifted.

Dec. 17, 2025:
The City of Fort Pierre is still under water restrictions for all system users until further notice. The Bureau of Reclamation and Mni Wiconi have had an issue with the tie in and it is taking longer than expected.
Fort Pierre water customers are asked to continue limiting water usage during this time as the town is operating on water storage.

Dec. 15, 2025:
The City of Fort Pierre is putting a water use restriction in place starting Monday (Dec. 15, 2025) at 10pm CT and continuing until further notice.
On Tuesday, the Bureau of Reclamation and Mni Wiconi will be connecting the new core water line with the existing water line. While the work is being done, the water will be shut off to Fort Pierre and the town will be using water from its storage water supply. All Fort Pierre water system customers are asked to limit unnecessary use until the restriction is lifted.
The city will send out a notification when the restriction is lifted.

Dec. 11, 2025:
The water use restriction in Fort Pierre has been lifted (as of 7:30pm CT on Dec. 11, 2025).
However, the adverse weather didn’t allow the Bureau of Reclamation and Mni Wiconi to complete the connection of the new core water line with the existing water line, so they will attempt to complete it on Tuesday.
