TeamMates Mentoring is a school-based program that connects students with adult community members that have similar interests.
Mentor Kim Leiferman says TeamMates is offered in both the Pierre and Stanley County School Districts.
Leiferman says there’s often a mismatch between the number of students who would like a mentor and the number of adults who are willing to serve as mentors– especially men.
January is National Mentoring Month so Leiferman says the Pierre-Fort Pierre TeamMates Chapter has a couple of activities planned that will get the mentors and mentees mingling with community members.
Leiferman says the first step for both mentees and mentors is filling out the application at www.teammates.org.
TeamMates was founded in Nebraska in 1991 by Coach Tom and Nancy Osborne.
