The South Dakota Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a semi that might have been involved in a hit and run crash near Humbolt at 2:13am on Jan. 3, 2026.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates 64 year old Patricia Dianne Archambeau from Mitchell was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse eastbound on I-90 when she attempted to pull off on the side of the road. At the same time, the Traverse was struck by an eastbound Semi pulling a trailer. The truck continued driving east after the crash and has yet to be located. Archambeau was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital where she died from her injuries Jan. 5, 2026.
Images of the semi in question were captured on I-29 near 41st Street in Sioux Falls on Jan. 3 at approximately 2:25am, traveling southbound. It is described as a red 2018 to 2023 Freightliner Cascadia semi, missing its passenger side headlight.
