A 26 year old man from Rapid City faces charges after walking into the wrong house Sunday night (Feb. 1, 2026) in Pierre.
According to the Pierre Police Department, Officers were dispatched around 8:24pm to a report that an unknown man had walked in the back door of a residence on Monroe Avenue. After looking around in the house, the homeowner told the male to leave, which he did. The homeowner told Officers that the man was talking nonsensically and was able to provide a description of the man and the vehicle that the man left in.
Officers arrived in the area and stopped a vehicle and male matching the description given to them. The driver was identified as Whyatt Mashek. Officers noted signs consistent with drug use and as a result Mashek was placed under arrest for first degree burglary, DUI, and failure to use a seatbelt. Mashek was taken to the Hughes County Jail.
