Depending on where you live in central South Dakota, you’re weather forecast for today (Feb. 18, 2026) includes a High Wind Warning or a Blizzard Warning.
Steve Fleegel with the National Weather Service Office in Aberdeen says the strong, gusty wind is being kicked up by a strong low pressure system.
Earlier in the week, the weather forecast mentioned the possibility of two or more inches of snow in parts of central South Dakota on Thursday, but that’s no longer the case. Fleegel says some areas are getting that snow today, other areas will most likely get little or no snow.
While many have been enjoying the unseasonably warm temperatures, grass and other fire fuels have been drying down. Fleegel says, unfortunately, there’s no moisture in the forecast to help reduce the potential fire danger.
Fleegel says more normal temperatures for this time of year will come in behind this low pressure system.
The current forecast shows high temperatures in the mid-20s to mid-30s through the weekend.
