Throughout the month of April, the South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety checkpoints in 16 counties.
The checkpoints will take place in Lyman and Stanley counties in the central part of the state. Sobriety checkpoints will also be conducted in Beadle, Bennett, Codington, Davison, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Roberts and Yankton counties.
Officials remind drivers not to drink and drive, regardless of whether a checkpoint is scheduled in their county. Drivers who have been drinking are encouraged to designate a sober driver or use commercial or public transportation.
The monthly checkpoints are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by Highway Patrol troopers with assistance from local law enforcement officers.
The Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are agencies of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
