The Fort Pierre City Council wants more information before deciding whether or not to approve an agreement with a homeowners association about maintenance of the canal that runs through the Marion’s Garden housing development.
Fort Pierre Public Works director Rick Hahn says the 10-year agreement outlines which entity is responsible for what.
The current agreement includes a one time payment of $25-thousand from the city to the Marion’s Garden Homeowners Association as compensation for the city’s use of the canal for drainage. Alderman Greg Kenzy questioned why an agreement is needed.
Hahn says the shoreline of the canal in Marion’s Garden is private, but the water is public.
The Fort Pierre City Council spent about half an hour discussing the issue during their meeting last night (Sept. 21). They didn’t give a specific date as to when they would address it again.
