The Oahe Hockey Association has had an incredibly successful summer as they close in on the completion of their expansion effort. A few months ago, they broke ground on the Ice Barn renovations which will allow the venue to host competitive matchups while also being comfortable for spectators as well. The Barn will also continue with 365-day ice, which will allow players the ability to work on their game year-round.
It is no secret there is hockey talent in central South Dakota, and one of those talented players, Carter Sanderson, was there to speak to the audience. Sanderson, who grew up playing for the Oahe Capitals and was recently drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins, spoke about his time growing up and how the facility allowed him the ability to take his game to the next level. We also spoke with Sanderson about how it felt to be such a big part of a growing community, here’s what he had to say:
At the podium, Sanderson continued about his appreciation to the association for continuing on with the progress they had made. OHA is currently closing in on completion on the overall project that began back in 2022 and was made up of three phases. They have also raised over $3 million in total, however, Nick Marso has goals for more in the future:
The night also saw U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Brian Rafalski, who was able to give another unique perspective on the game itself.
