A small group of staff and supporters of the South Dakota Discovery Center in Pierre came together yesterday (Oct. 5) to celebrate reaching their goal of establishing an endowment fund through the South Dakota Community Foundation.
The Center raised $80,000 in an endowment challenge that qualified them to receive an additional $20,000 gift from the South Dakota Community Foundation.
Discovery Center executive director Dr. Rhea Waldman says the reality is there are many barriers to scientific and technological knowledge that helps kids become successful adults in careers that support the state’s economy. She says this endowment will support programs, developed by the SDDC team, that support students and their teachers in providing access to real-world STEM education.
The public is welcome to share stories of how the SDDC has impacted them using the hashtag #advocateforscience on social media and by tagging the South Dakota Discovery Center.
