The Pierre School Board meeting room had a different look for last night’s (Oct. 13) meeting– a socially distanced look.
The tables in front and for the audience were spaced apart and those up front wore a mask, except when speaking. This was a stark difference from previous months’ meetings when board members and administrators were still in close quarters and no masks were worn.
T.F. Riggs High School started a hybrid class schedule in September after a majority of students had to be in quarantine because they were close contacts of the around 20 active cases in the school.
Supt. Dr. Kelly Glodt said the district hasn’t had any recent changes to its back to school plan.
Yesterday’s (Oct. 13) weekly COVID-19 case update from the Pierre School District showed zero active cases among students and three active cases in staff in the district.
Glodt says the Pierre School District will continue to follow the state Department of Health’s quarantine recommendations.
The district “strongly recommends” middle and high school students and staff wear masks at school anywhere social distancing cannot be maintained. It also requires students at all grade levels to wear masks at all extra-curricular activities. Parents and fans are strongly encouraged to wear masks at events. Seating at Hollister Field and in the high school gym has been adjusted to block off every other row to aid in social distancing.
