Pierre T.F. Riggs High School senior Emily Mertes has been assigned a seat in the 1st Violin section of the 68th annual South Dakota All-State Chorus & Orchestra.
Because of COVID-19, this year applicants submitted video auditions and took the terminology test, proctored by teachers online.
The All-State concert has been rescheduled for April 20, 2021, in Sioux Falls (Denny Sanford Premier Center). It was originally scheduled for Oct. 31, but was postponed.
When Mertes, the daughter of Barry and Stacy Mertes, isn’t practicing her violin, she enjoys being a member of T.F. Riggs High School Band (instructor Mackenzie McKeithan Jensen), The Pierre Youth Orchestra (director, Moriah Gross), working at Branding Iron Bistro and Saint Joseph School. She plans to attend Augustana University and major in music education.
