Tuesday afternoon grass fire approaches, but does not damage homes in northwest Pierre

A pair of juvenile boys got a lesson in fire safety yesterday afternoon (Feb. 23) when the fireworks they were using started a grass fire in the northwest part of Pierre.

Volunteer Fire Department chief Ian Paul says the fire was on the north end of Poplar Avenue just off of 8^th Street about 4:30pm.

Paul reminds people– both in towns and in the country– conditions in the area are very dry, so a fire could spread quickly.

A shop fire was also reported at the Jim and Carol Korkow farm between Pierre and Blunt last night. DRG Media Group has not yet received a response requesting details of that fire.
