A 26 year old man from Fort Pierre has been sentenced in Sixth Circuit Court this week (March 23, 2021) on charges of Aggravated Eluding, DUI and Reckless Use of Firearm.
The judge ordered Wyatt Myers to serve two years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary, suspended, upon several conditions.
Stanley County State’s Attorney Tom Maher says those conditions include Myers:
- serving 30 days in jail,
- pay restitution of $500 for shooting a dog,
- pay restitution for vehicle collision damage to a commercial fence in the amount of $18,900,
- pay fines of $1,500 and other financial obligations,
- that he possess no weapons,
- that he obtain an alcohol/drug/anger control evaluation and treatment and
- that he successfully complete 3 years’ probation under the supervision of the Court Services Office.
Court information says at about midnight Aug. 17, 2020, the dog’s owner called 911 to report his dog was shot outside of his home along South Dakota Highway 1806 and that the shooter had left. Law enforcement officers from the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol located Myer’s driving away from the scene. A high speed chase began and went into the City of Fort Pierre. The pursuit ended when Myers’s truck hit a Western Area Power Administration security fence in Fort Pierre.
Charges for open container, careless driving and no seat belt were dismissed.
