A 30 year old man from St. Francis, South Dakota, convicted of Possession of an Unregistered Firearm has been sentenced in US District Court.
Kendall Elk Looks Back must serve 12 months and one day in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release and give up the firearm.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred in January 2019, in Todd County when Elk Looks Back possessed a weapon less than 16 inches in length, which was not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce
violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone. This case is also part of Project Guardian, the Department of Justice’s initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.
Elk Looks Back was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshals Service.
