Information from Great Plains Fire Information says as of yesterday (March 31), the Dry Creek Fire in Jones County is only 80% contained.
A summary on Tuesday said the fire was 100% contained.
Great Plains Fire Information says the fire, 9 miles northwest of Murdo, is believed to have been caused by a downed power line in vicinity of the fire. The size of the Dry Creek Fire is currently estimated at 9,492 acres and significant smoke will continue to be visible from I-90. The burned area is on private land and 1/2 section of South Dakota School and Public Lands property.
The fire was reported Tuesday (March 29, 2021) at about 12:30pm.
