The National Weather Service says the grassland fire danger index will be in the “extreme” category this afternoon (Mon.) in parts of central South Dakota.
Some counties included in the area are Stanley, Hughes, Jones, Lyman, Haakon, Dewey, Todd and Mellette.
The grassland fire danger index will reach the “very high” category this afternoon in the rest of South Dakota, including Corson, Campbell, McPherson, Walworth, Edmunds, Potter, Faulk, Sully, Hyde, Hand and Buffalo counties.
According to the National Weather Service, a fire will start easily and has the potential to spread quickly.
