A 42 year old woman from Pierre faces half a dozen charges after a hit-and-run accident about 2:30 yesterday afternoon (April 5, 2021).
Information from the Pierre Police Department they were called to the area of Sioux and Poplar because of a traffic accident. Police were told a vehicle driven by Jennifer BigEagle failed to yield to another at the intersection. BigEagle fled the scene before police arrival.
Around 3:15pm yesterday, the suspect vehicle being operated by BigEagle was observed pulling into the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of West Sioux. During the investigation, police officers determined BigEagle was operating her vehicle under the influence and was ultimately arrested. When the arresting officer arrived at the jail, BigEagle resisted attempts to remove her from the patrol vehicle and kicked a corrections officer.
BigEagle is being held at the Hughes County Jail charged with DUI 3rd Offense, Driving While Revoked, Failure to Yield, Leaving an Accident Scene, Simple Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer and Obstructing an Officer, Jailer or Firefighter.
