PIERRE – A big inning in the first game and a shutout in the second game led Pierre Governor Baseball to a doubleheader sweep of Sturgis Sunday at Hyde Stadium 8-6 & 4-0.
Pierre (16-4) trailed 4-2 before scoring six runs in the fourth inning of the first game. A Sturgis error tied the game before Matthew Hanson gave the Governors the lead with an RBI groundout. Maguire Raske had an RBI single, then Bennett Dean hit a two-run single later in the inning. Andy Gordon hit a two-run double in the third inning.
Brady Getz pitched a two-hit shutout in the second game, striking out five. Gary Nedved had a two-run fourth-inning double for Pierre. Collin Brueggeman drove in a round with a groundout and Jayden Wiebe singled in a two-run fifth inning.
