Avera Missouri River Health Center in Gettysburg is the beneficiary of an endowment established through the South Dakota Community Foundation.
The estate of the late Joseph Neumayr of Gettysburg has gifted over $200,000 to establish the endowed fund.
Longtime business partner and friend Craig Smith says Neumayr believed in giving back to the community.
Neumayr served in a variety of roles while helping the hospital.
Smith says having a new medical facility available when people need it, is a huge benefit to the entire Gettysburg area.
The funds will be invested, providing a perpetual source of support for the health center, which was established two years ago (September 2019). The facility includes an inpatient unit, a modern emergency services facility, radiology and imaging services, IV infusion suites, a new physical therapy gym and a welcoming clinic – all fully connected to the Avera eCARE® telemedicine system.
In February 2019, Avera announced plans to raise funds to build the Avera Missouri River Health Care Center in Gettysburg and committed $9 million toward the $12 million project. North-central South Dakota residents rallied around the project and raised more than $2.5 million in cash and pledged gifts in less than 120 days.
