Tomorrow and Thursday (Sept. 1-2), the South Dakota Urban Indian Health clinic in Pierre (1714 Abbey Road) will be open extended hours– from 5-8pm CT– to offer free, Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines to the community.
Tami Hogie-Lorenzen, Chief Medical Officer of SDUIH, says through their community outreach work, they’ve learned many people want to get vaccinated against COVID, but aren’t available during normal clinic hours. She says they also recognize that leaving work and transportation to and from the clinic, costs money, so in addition to the vaccine, SDUIH is giving everyone who gets vaccinated with them a $30 gift card.
Anyone over the age of 18 years can get their vaccine at the clinic. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged and can be made by calling 605-224-8841. This event will NOT be providing booster shots for those who are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
SDUIH Chief Executive Officer of Michaela Seiber says as the number of cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 is rising in South Dakota, it’s critical that those who are eligible to be vaccinated, get the vaccine. She says with school back in session and children 11 years old and younger being especially vulnerable to the Delta variant, but not eligible to be vaccinated, it’s important for adults to do their part to keep the community safe.
