After a successful first session this summer, the South Dakota Discovery Center is holding more “Little STEAMers” preschool sessions this fall.
Spots are still available for the Friday morning classes, held from 8:30-11am CT, from Sept. 10 through Dec. 17, 2021.
Dr. Rhea Waldman, SDDC Executive Director, says curiosity is at the core of science, technology, engineering, art and math fields, known in education as STEAM. She says “Little STEAMers” directs a child’s natural inquisitiveness through hands-on exploration, using their senses, fun experiments and art projects, along with reading and conversation.
Waldman says providing opportunities for scientific discovery at an early age can foster a lifelong love of science and gives a basic grounding in scientific concepts and scientific thinking that will stay with them into the future. She says “Little STEAMers” compliments the SDDC Itty Bitty Einsteins program, which is monthly, with coordinated activities so that young learners can participate in either or both.
The Fall Semester starts this week, skipping Thanksgiving week, for a total of 14 classes. There are scholarships available to students in need.
