VERMILLION – Madi Williams hit a jumper in the lane with five seconds left on Tuesday to give Oklahoma a win over South Dakota 73-71 in the women’s basketball season opener at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Williams’ bucket came after the Coyotes’ Liv Korngable hit a tying three-pointer with 14 seconds remaining, capping a comeback from nine points down.
Korngable led the Coyotes with 22 points and six assists. Sully Buttes alum Chloe Lamb scored 18. Hannah Sjerven also scored 18 and had 13 rebounds.
USD was held to 39 percent shooting and missed nine free throws.
The Coyotes will meet top-ranked South Carolina on Friday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls in The Invitational.
