The Walworth County Commission held a regular meeting on Thursday, December 9th. They discussed and approved signing the NECOG Joint Cooperative Agreement for 2022.
A motion passed to accept Rick Cain’s resignation from the board. Commission Chairman Jim Houck voted not to accept the resignation.
Among several items on the agenda for the highway department, the commission approved a utility easement with West River Telecommunications for a cable crossing northeast of Mobridge across County Road 314. Also, a request from a resident to clean out a drainage channel to alleviate flooding was approved.
For the landfill the commission approved the surplus of two recycling trailers and thirty waste tubs for auction. Commissioner Duane Mohr also said the Webster scale project has been completed.
For the sheriff’s department the commission approved renewals on jail contracts with both Hughes County and the City of Winner. An insurance claim ($4,708.33) for repairs and maintenance on the 2013 Chevy Tahoe that hit a deer during transport was approved. There were no injuries in that accident. Also approved was the annual contract fee ($7,082.00) for maintenance on the finger printing machine.
After discussion regarding the Extension Office, the commission decided to approve statewide advertising for a 4-H Youth Advisor and part-time extension secretary. Commissioner Mohr would like to have 4-H leaders and commissioners present during interviews. SDSU Extension requires a 4-year bachelor’s degree and would have to give final approval.
The commission also approved December 23rd as an employee admin day with the courthouse closed. Commissioner Kevin Holgard voted against the motion.
