Arnold Hasper, 98, Aberdeen, SD and formerly of Pollock and Herreid, SD died Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Avera Eureka Health Care Center, Eureka, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock, SD with Reverend Floyd Haan officiating (service will be livestreamed at www.myersfh.com). Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, January13, with prayer service at 7 PM and one hour prior to the funeral service at the Church. Burial will be at the Hull Cemetery.
Arnold Hasper was born on December 8, 1923 on a farm located four miles south of Hull, ND. Arnold was the son of John and Lemmie (Meinema) Hasper. They lived on various farms. Arnold attended country school and graduated from Hague High School in 1941. Arnold taught country school for one year and then worked for the Wyoming Township in Michigan. He then returned home and started farming with his father while living in Strasburg, ND.
Arnold married Esther Pool on November 24, 1950. They farmed seven miles north of Herreid, SD until 2007 when they moved to Pollock, SD. They spent two winters in Texas and 28 winters in Apache Junction, AZ. In 2010, Arnold moved to Davis Courts in Aberdeen, SD to be near his wife, Esther, who required care at the adjoining nursing home.
While spending winters in Arizona, Arnold enrolled in classes on wood carving, calligraphy, drawing and golf at the Arizona Community College. He was also a member of a clown troupe. He enjoyed fishing, camping, trips with grand children and traveling, making trips to Alaska, Germany, Holland and Mexico.
Arnold was a member of the Hull Christian Reformed Church where he served on the consistory and the building committee before moving to Pollock and joining the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was a long-time member of the Gideons International, Farm Bureau and the Campbell Country Crop Improvement Association. He was also a 4-H leader.
Arnold is survived by four children and their spouses. These are Arlene (Ken) Odde, Pollock, SD, Louise (Rick) Barondeau, Sioux Falls, SD, Arlyn (Peggy) Hasper, Herreid, SD and Gail (Terry) Bacon, Aberdeen, SD. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Donna (Wayne) Fischer, Aberdeen, SD, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, his parents, his son, Jeffery, great-grandson, Jacob Kessler, sister, Jeanette (Terry) Lawler and brother John E. Hasper.
The family suggests memorials go to Gideons International or the Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church.
