Lightning from the storm system that rolled through central South Dakota Sunday night kept volunteer fire departments busy putting out grass fires.
Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief Tye Odden says at one point they had units at four different fires.
He says some area ranchers and businesses also helped put out the fires.
Odden says the lightning also kept other area fire departments busy Sunday night.
With the extreme heat drying things out this past week, Odden says a grass fire can start easily and spread quickly.
