The City of Fort Pierre has issued a water restriction and portions of the West River/Lyman-Jones Rural Water system will experience low pressures and outages today (Sept. 14) and tomorrow because of a leak in a main Mni Wiconi water line.
Fort Pierre’s water restriction—which includes no lawn watering– is in effect and until further notice to minimize issues with water supply, including fire protection.
The areas most likely to be impacted are the Oahe Downstream Campgrounds, Frontier Road and the rural area between Fort Pierre and Interstate 90. Other areas north and south of the I-90 corridor are likely to be impacted if the Mni Wiconi pipeline is shut down longer than expected.
The Bureau of Reclamation and Mni Wiconi are working to repair the leak.
Fort Pierre residents with questions should call the City Office at 223-7690.
