As South Dakota continues to see a spike in COVID-19 cases, the Department of Corrections and Department of Health continue to mass test correction facilities according to a press release.
The release says as of today (October 16), there are 249 inmates and staff at the Women’s facility in Pierre have recovered from COVID-19. In that facility, there are only 10 active cases that are currently opened.
This week, mass testing was done at the Mike Durfee State Prison (MDSP) in Springfield. There were 127 inmates that tested positive and 22 inmates tested negative. They are isolating the inmates that did test positive.
The release says all education, skill training and work programs at MDSP have been temporarily suspended. It was also stated that transfers to and from this facility has been suspended.
