There was no tornado and no, it wasn’t a siren test

Some residents of Hughes and Stanley counties got a surprise mid-afternoon today (Nov. 16) when the storm warning sirens went off telling people to take cover because of an approaching tornado.

There was no tornado.

Hughes and Stanley County emergency management director Rob Fines says Central South Dakota Communications dispatch is remodeling work spaces and a glitch in the switchover caused the sirens to go off.
