Fort Pierre’s Christmas Tree Lighting and Cowboy Christmas activities scheduled for this Friday (Nov. 27, 2020) have been postponed until Dec. 4.
Information from the Fort Pierre Development Corporation says A-G-E Construction’s equipment isn’t available to set the tree until the end of this week. To allow time for the city crew to get the tree decorated, activities have been pushed back one week. This year’s featured tree is a blue spruce donated by Scott Hipple. It will be brought to town Monday (Nov. 30) and placed in the manhole at the intersection of Main Avenue and Deadwood Street that was designed for that purpose.
The Bad River Bridge Lighting– which was planned to coincide with the Christmas Tree Lighting– has been postponed indefinitely. Once city workers are trained on how to run the control panel, a new date for the pedestrian bridge lighting will be set.
As a reminder….
Fort Pierre residents and businesses have until Dec. 15 to sign up for this year’s Christmas Lighting contest. Normally this is held in conjunction with the Annual Fort Pierre Christmas Tree Lighting, but this year the contest has an extended deadline and winners will be decided by judges.
To enter, businesses and residents should call the FPDC office at 605-223-7603 or email fpdc@fortpierre.com. Be sure to include your address and phone number when registering by phone or via email. The winning business will receive a discounted FPDC membership while the winning residence will get a $25 Lynn’s Dakotamart gift certificate.
