Hughes County Commissioners had another discussion about establishing a safer space for holding court during their regular meeting yesterday evening (Dec. 7, 2020).
Loren Schaefer with Brosz Engineering says a few different sites and options are being considered.
Schaefer is working with a security consultant from St. Paul, Minnesota, to evaluate possible sites and options.
Schaefer says in the interest of achieving the optimum price, they’ll look at leaving as much as they can in the courthouse and just solving the problems that currently need to be solved.
Commission chair Randy Vance says it’s still early in the planning process so a committee will gather as much information as possible.
Hughes County commissioners agreed the county has done what it could to eliminate the security issues for court operations, but a permanent solution is needed.
