Fire north of Pierre burns 400+ acres

The Hughes County emergency manager says a grass fire north of Pierre near the Oahe Dam is contained.

Rob Fines says the fire in the Peoria Flats area burned an estimated 400-450 acres.

Northwest winds gusting past 50mph drove smoke from the fire into Pierre and caused visibility issues miles downriver from the Oahe Dam.
