Firefighters put out a flare up this afternoon, but Pierre Volunteer Fire Department chief Ian Paul says they have since left the scene of the Edgewater Apartment Building fire in the northwest part of Pierre.
Firefighters did have to put out some small grass fires that started from embers being blown around by 40+ mph wind gusts. Paul conditions are extremely dry in town as well as out in the rural areas.
No people were injured and no surrounding structures were damaged in the fire that started around 5:30pm yesterday (Jan. 14). The cause of the fire is under investigation.
